Product Management
I'm a social impact product manager assisting organizations and their beneficiaries with unfurling collective learning and wisdom to co-create meaningful solutions to worthy challenges.
I bring a warm and incisive approach to product management as an engineering leader completing my PM metamorphosis.
- 9+ years product management and product thinking in practice, including user research, prototyping, and testing.
- 7+ years fullstack development across 12 custom web & mobile products for clients spanning all sizes and industries.
- 3+ years people management, coaching and supporting 6 developers across career levels, both junior and more senior.
- 1+ year team leadership on 2 projects, serving teams of 2-8 developers with account manager and designer co-leads.
I'm interested in joining an organization driven by effective social good. My early career is rooted in impact organizations and the highlights of my technology career have been the periods where I got to work on social impact products. I'm dedicated to now working exclusively on products that focus on social good with organizations that seek the most effective means.
My background includes working with non-profits and government. I held early internships at the City of Minneapolis Department of Community Planning & Economic Development, at the World Affairs Council doing globally-minded civil society community event programming, and at the Washington State Department of Commerce working on small business international trade development. Before I set out to establish a career in tech my focus was public benefit work, and throughout my tenure as a software developer I aimed to one day take my flourishing skills and return to my roots.
The first social impact technology product I had the opportunity to join as a developer was Oliver (later renamed Sprout), a child welfare service and analytics application for Partners for Our Children (a non-profit arm of the University of Washington's School of Social Work) in collaboration with Washington State's Department of Children Youth and Families and The Center for Social Sector Analytics & Technology. It sought to better connect families with social services and improve service outcomes by tracking provider performance and compliance.
The success of Oliver eventually led to a new project partnership with a subset of Oliver's collaborating organizations, this time developing a product connecting children with healthcare and education services, which I joined early on and conducted research, discovery, and development at a senior level, and later went on to lead the team in a technical product management capacity. The fulfilling experiences I had working on these social good products are the heart of what I'd like to carry forward in my product career.
I'm also keen on self-sustaining impact startups with direct, positive relationships between social benefit and their revenue.
I am specifically not interested in products related to AI (generative, LLMs, "general") or user engagement. Read why not.
Resume
Experience
Led 2 interdisciplinary projects alongside designer and account manager, primarily guiding a complex government service product with a team of 6-8 developers. Embraced both Lead Dev and Product Manager responsibilities, where exceptional stewardship generated CTO interest in custom creation of a new Technical PM role to leverage unique blend of skills.
Throughout tenure contributed not only to fullstack development and system design, but also user research, prioritization, refining scope, iterating designs, writing user stories, ongoing stakeholder engagement, and attending to healthy team / organization culture and practices. Received more requests to become someone's manager than role could accommodate.
Employee #1 after the founders, owned multiple product websites and wore many hats while iterating product-market fit.
